Applied Information Technology Experience (AITE) Program

Summer 2006 Program

AITE Application Form

The goal of the Applied Information Technology Experience (AITE) program is to help students, undergraduates and graduates, gain a valuable real world experience by working on projects sponsored by local companies. Each project has a team consisting of one or more students, a faculty member, and a professional from the sponsoring company. By working on a "real" project with well-defined goals and milestones, the students develop skills necessary to succeed in the work place.

The program is run on a yearly basis. Beginning each September, the AITE program contacts local companies to develop a set of viable projects. The projects are announced by mid October, and teams of students and faculty are formed by mid November. The projects are carried out during the winter semester. This gives the companies an opportunity to have the students continue the work, if necessary, during spring/summer through summer internships. The program culminates with a one-day session of demonstrations, presentations, and assessment. Each year, an award is given to the team whose project is judged the best.

The program is overseen by a committee consisting of faculty and industry representatives who guide the choice of projects in terms of industry needs, and the skill set expected from students to create a win-win situation for everyone involved.
